First News is the UK’s weekly newspaper for children, delivered into homes and schools every Friday. In these difficult times First News is focussing on reporting the good news and celebrating what’s good in the world so that children feel positive and empowered for their future. Try First News for as little as £1.
First News is committed to ensuring that the wood fibre used to produce our paper comes from reputable sources and well-managed forests, which is why First News is printed on FSC certified paper. We acquire our paper from mills that are certified in accordance with ISO 9001 and 14001, and the chain of custody is in accordance with FSC and PEFC. Any paper wastage caused by the manufacturing process is recycled.
Our subscription copies are wrapped in a compostable wrapper. The compostable wrapper is made from a material called BIOPLAST®300 made from waste potatoes left out of the food chain and processed to release the starch.
The wrapper is certified as OK compost HOME which means it can easily be disposed with food waste, garden compost or in green compost recycling bins. First News was the first children’s publication in the country to move away from polythene wrapper to compostable wrapper. We are committed to becoming less reliant on single use plastics and to achieving our Wonderful World Pledge.
